Thorns replace merits and flaws for wraiths. Each thorn has an xp cost which when taken gives that much XP to the character at character creation. Characters can take a maximum of 14xp worth of thorns. If staff are not present to run the shadow's use of a thorn, other players may do so, but they must be as harsh as they can think of about it.

Thorns

Spectre prestige (2/6/10/14 xp Thorn)

  • As legion prestige but for the spectres, each xp total represents a level of prestige the shadow has with spectres, 1, 2, 3 and super.

Dark Allies (2/6/10/14 xp thorn)

  • As allies but for the spectres, each xp total represents a level of prestige the shadow has with spectres, 1, 2, 3 and super.

Tainted Relic (2/6/10/14 xp thorn)

  • As artifact but for the shadow, each xp total represents a level of artifact the shadow has that manifests during catharsis, 1, 2, 3 and super.

Infamy (2/4/6/8/10 xp thorn)

  • The wraith is hated by the living and the living may destroy their fetters, whenever the wraith slumbers the wraith makes a chop up to the level in this flaw(1-5) for each success their psyche gains a temp angst.

Oblivion’s sigil (2/4/6 xp thorn)

  • The wraith is marked by oblivion in some way that follows her wherever she goes each sigil is unique but cannot be hidden from other wraiths except by spending a willpower. Wraiths are down 1-3 social traits in all interactions with other wraiths while the sigil is unhidden.

Shadow traits (2/4/6xp thorn)

  • For each 2 xp in this flaw the shadow gains an additional trait of it’s choice during catharsis.

Nightmares (4xp thorn)

  • The shadow may cause the wraith it inhabits to have terrible nightmares while slumbering which will not allow the wraith to recover corpus or pathos(picks 1). The shadow must spend a temp angst to inflict nightmares on a slumbering wraith.

Aura of corruption(4 xp thorn)

  • The shadow defiles the wraith’s appearance in some way, causing her to lose ties on a social challenge by spending a temp angst.

Shadow call (4 xp thorn)

  • While standing in the tempest or near a nihil the shadow can spend a temp angst to call nearby spectres this is audible to the wraith but no one else. Nearby spectres will soon arrive

Pact of doom (6 xp thorn)

  • The wraith and the shadow agree to a pact by which the wraith gains the use of any arcanoi including dark arcanoi for the scene, in turn the shadow gains 1 PERMANENT angst.

Trick of the light (6 xp thorn)

  • By spending a temp angst the shadow can change a slight detail it’s psyche sees about the scene causing an ally to appear as an enemy or a nihil to be a little farther away then it seems.

Bad luck(6 xp thorn)

  • By spending a temp angst the shadow can call an overbid challenge against the psyche after it would have won a challenge.

Honeyed tongue(8 xp thorn)

  • By spending a temp angst the wraith can make a dominate 2 command against it’s wraith that makes one sentence believable This covers everything from I’m sure Lucien won’t mind if you steal his relic beer to The Shade won’t bite if you just lean over and pet it nicely. Honeyed tongue can only be used once a scene.

Tainted touch (8 xp thorn)

  • Whenever your psyche touches another wraith you can spend a temp angst to cause the contact to gain 3 points of angst as you spread oblivion.. The contact can cancel each point of angst gain by spending a willpower point. Wraiths can only be affected by tainted touch once per day

Shadow play(10 xp thorn)

  • Once per session The shadow can offer the psyche an additional action at the end of all celerity actions, if the psyche accepts the shadow gains 2 temp angst and the psyche loses 2 pathos. The psyche cannot ask for the extra action.

Shadow familiar(10 xp thorn)

  • The wraith’s physical shadow turns against it and becomes a minor servant of oblivion, the shadow guide can use this familiar to do small tasks that could be accomplished by a rat or bat and it is always watching.

Freudian slip(10 xp thorn)

  • By spending a temp angst, the shadow can force the psyche to make a sudden involuntary action, or an unedited statement that will be attributed to the psyche. The psyche may spend a willpower for a retest to resist this effect, but the shadow wins ties on this test.

Shadow life(10 xp thorn)

  • The shadow gets up and controls the body while the wraith slumbers, mechanically the shadow takes bluebook actions while you slumber and you get all the blame for its actions, these actions are controlled by the storyteller but the shadowguide and psyche can have input.

Manifestation (12 xp thorn)

  • By expending 1 temp angst, The shadow can manifest once a game as a completely separate entity from the wraith, for the scene taunting it and being able to use dark arcanoi and thorns. The shadow may help the party or hinder it at their choice. This may get you in trouble with legionnaires who assume you are a doppelganger spectre.

Devil’s dare (14 xp thorn)

  • Once a session The shadow may spend 1 temp angst and writes a dare to the psyche, adjudicated by the storyteller if it’s impossible. if by the end of the session the psyche

has not accomplished the dare the shadow gains 10 temp angst.

Vampiric nature (14 xp thorn)

  • Upon physical contact with another wraith or spectre(attacks count even if with a weapon) the shadow can make a simple chop, if it succeeds the target loses 2 angst/pathos and the shadow gains 2 angst, if the target is willing to willingly give up angst(such as with a helpful spectre) the shadow can gain up to 5 angst per contact. This thorn can be used once per target per session.
